A Dividing Line

Through the sandstorm, a border in isolation. A wall — raised high in monolithic display — stands to divide nations, culture, and people. With low visibility, the neighboring Sunland Park, NM and Ciudad Juárez, México unite in post-apocalyptic conditions.

Trentemøller at Wonder Ballroom

Following the cadence of driving 8-bit drum samples and a multi-layered ambient soundscape, the silhouette of Anders Trentemøller took to the stage. The atmospheric sounds of November began to crescendo in full force against the walls of Portland's Wonder Ballroom the evening of 12 March, inducing a black clad audience into a trance-like state. But leaving a book of seances at home next to a collection of new wave goth vinyl, the crowd came prepared for a dance party courtesy of Copenhagen's finest. The smørrebrød was on the house, of course.

The Danish producer and multi-instrumentalist brought a new form to his cinematic classics with help of a live band and long time collaborator Marie Fisker on vocals. From the cascading minimalist synth-scapes to driving electropunk, the performance was bound together with a contemplative melodic complexity and the energy of Portland's electronic junkies. Trentemøller toured North American in support of his new album Fixion.
